Depending on the individual’s needs, treatment may include a combination of group and individual counseling, family therapy, and education, as well as medication-assisted treatment. A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a structured type of intensive outpatient program for those struggling with addiction, mental illness, and co-occurring disorders. PHPs are more intensive than traditional outpatient treatment but less intensive than inpatient or residential treatment. This intensive outpatient program is often used as a step-down from inpatient care or a step-up from traditional outpatient services when a higher level of care is needed.
